Class Introspection in C++? Ask the physicists!

In my experience as a programmer, I have noticed that there always has been demand for a good way to achieve class introspection. Then the arguing starts: some languages already have class and object introspection, like Obj-C or Python, which, though becoming increasingly more popular, are still the minority of used languages. Then we have C++, which doesn't have class introspection by default, but most people use a lot. Is there a solution to this problem? Surprisingly, physicists have developed a great tool!

Columbus is ready to go.... almost!

Hey there! Just a small update on Columbus. As you might have heard Columbus was not launched last week due to a Fuel Sensor Failure. If all 4 fuel sensors would fail and, in an unlikely event, that the fuel would go empty during travel, then the engines would suck in air and because the helium, oxygen mixture would be wrong the whole shuttle would explode. Thats why the launch was postponed to Jan 10, 2007. Engineers are hoping to have a grip on the problem until then.

So for all of you who missed the launch a week ago, now you have the chance to see it (again?!?).

Columbus is ready to go

ColumbusFor all of you who have not been watching space news like I do almost daily ( www.nasa.gov, www.esa.int, www.space.com ), the european contribution to the international space station columbus will be on its' way to the station this evening. I can hardly wait. This will finally be a major contribution to the station after more than 4 years of an uncompleted station floating around in space. After this contribution there will be sufficient life supply systems for 6 people to live on the ISS simultaneously in contrast to a maximum of 3 before Columbus. Let's hope all goes well.

Great coverage can be found at http://webservices.esa.int/page.php

The Launch can be seen live on Nasa-TV ( of course on www.nasa.gov )!

The "Bach" Code

morimur.jpgI recently stumbled over a CD called "Morimur" that my father got as a present from a colleague. I copied it onto my iPod and heard it on one of my many trips between Heidelberg and Tübingen. Wow, this CD was overwhelmingly intense: it sounded much like a very modern and good movie soundtrack, being played by only one violin and a choir of 4. It had a very "ghostly" feeling to it. Of course I was curious who composed this modern work and I was surprised to see that it was Bach!
