Moving to Dublin

What many of you have been hearing about is finally official: I will be moving to Dublin, Ireland at the beginning of next year. There, I will be working for Hermes SoftLab, an international software engineering services company, as a Mac developer. My flight off the continent is booked for January 9th, and as you can well imagine, I am very excited. I cannot say much more at the moment, but I will be sure to keep you guys updated on my situation. Of course, in the first few weeks I may be quite busy, but I am sure our other bloggers will provide the site with plenty of content. On that note, I also have created a personal "to blog" list of all the things I keep telling people I will blog about, but haven't so far. Expect more on that in the upcoming days. Until then, pop open a bottle of Guinness (fresh from the tap follows when visiting me in Dublin) and send out a toast to me! Cheers!

The Price of Salvation

You've probably been reading about it just about anywhere: The U.S. government's plan to invest 700 billion dollars to save the dying banks. The plan is highly controversial, and heavily criticized among politicians, and especially U.S. tax-payers. But is it even legal? Here is an interesting interview (although a few days old) with a man who knew it all along: Ron Paul. (Make sure to also click on the second part).

Obama - Not just words

Barack Obama has often stressed the power of words. And although that resonates well with many of the voters (and people like me), words can lose their power quickly, if you don't back them up with actions. But in Obama's case, he (unlike the current president) is just so good with words. If you have ever seen him give a speech, you'll agree that he is a great speaker, even if you do not agree with what he says. So it comes as no surprise that Obama would stress the importance of words, given his talents.

However, even the liberal digg community has sometimes wondered, whether Obama's words really meant something, or if it was just a cover-up for his inexperience in the political world. Well, just today, I got a glimpse of just how strongly Obama sticks to his words.

Some more site construction

As you can see, I am currently attempting to update some aspects of this site, most notably I am updating the theme to satisfy our (bad) taste. Although it is beginning to reflect our chocolate/coffee addiction, I am not quite happy with the looks yet. I was disappointed to see that there are not many dark-brown web safe colors to choose from. Also there are still some left-over traces of the Marinelli blue here and there, but I hope to eliminate those in the upcoming days.

I have also added captchas to the comment section (for unauthorized users) to avoid those pesky spam-bots. For now, it is only a simple word question that could easily be answered by a bot, but we'll see how well this holds up. If those bots do not give up, I'll change the captcha to image mode (which however brings along some accessibility issues I would like to avoid). Anyway, gotta get back to work. If you have any ideas, tips or complaints, feel free to comment!

Big Update

This is your Admin speaking! As I hope you can see, there has been some work going on at Gingedas.net. I figured that after a few years of being online, we might actually begin to get a bit serious about this business, and actually implement some of things we were planning on doing in the first few days. Anyway, although we're still a long way from having incorporated everything we would like into this site, a few major things have changed already. Here's what's new.

Admin's first post

Alright, everybody! Here we are again!
We have again switched Content-Management-Systems as the last one we tried was on the one hand powerful, but otherwise had such a steep learning curve, that it took too much frustration and head-aches to accomplish even the simplest things.
Well, here we are on Drupal now. I don't want to promise that this is final yet. Although the first impression has absolutely thrilled me, I don't know yet, whether we will stick to this particular installation / version / etc, since things have been quite chaotic here recently, and I am not sure whether we are currently built on stable ground.
But I do promise that things are improving now, and that we'll work hard to get things up and running again. For now things will still look very experimental, and much of the functionality is in test / sandbox mode.
Cheers,
The Admin
